Senior Public Relations Account Associate
The Senior Public Relations Account Associate must have media
relations experience and a command of written and oral communications, technology and research skills. The successful candidate will coordinate and manage client accounts, participate in strategic planning sessions, supervise support staff and contribute to a range of marketing and special events managed by the firm. Exposure to the firm’s impressive client roster, strategic communications and national policy campaigns offer an excellent career bridge from mid-level to senior professional staff.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in strategy and planning sessions to craft communications campaigns ranging from support in implementing message development and market research projects to envisioning “outside the box” initiatives to promote national policy campaigns.
- Produce project work plans and serve as point of contact for the execution of special campaigns and sustained account management.
- Manage and oversee media and other public outreach campaigns including production of collateral assets ranging from factsheets and information kits to news advisories. Conduct media outreach including “cold calls”, oped placements and special events such as briefings and news conferences.
- Coordinate marketing initiatives for client and new business campaigns utilizing various technology and software application to produce high quality print and electronic documents.
- Support expansion and maintenance of web-based communications tools.
- Participate in presentation training sessions and support expansion of firm’s media training program.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing and copy editing skills with demonstrated abilities to produce work reports, news releases, commentaries and other documents for story placement.
- Public policy experience with clear understanding of the interplay between policy and communications.
- Avid interest, understanding and exposure to news media with proven ability to plan and rollout national campaigns.
- Proficiency with wide range of technology including on-line research tools, desktop applications; web content and/or design management skills a plus.
- Team player with ability to lead or follow and inspire staff morale and support.
- At least seven years experience at a public relations agency or related field. Journalism, public policy or social advocacy background a plus.

Junior Public Relations Account Associate
The Junior Public Relations Account Associate is energetic, creative, personable and has excellent writing and organizational skills. They must be able to do a variety of tasks under deadline pressure. Attention to detail is highly desired. This position reports directly to the President, but the immediate supervisor is dictated by the team leader on each project and is determined by the specific task or work assignment. The position provides a superb opportunity for an aspiring public relations professional to learn and grow.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with other professional staff and client to develop and implement media campaign and special events that will promote and enhance the client and related issues. Includes pitching client issues nad events, fielding media calls and responding to public inquiries related to the client and any special events activities.
- Serve as secondary client contact and provide public relations services under the direction of senior staff. This includes discussing public relations efforts with clients and serving as a liason between senior staff and clients..
- Conduct media outreach on behalf of clients under the direction of and in coordination with senior staff. Includes developing media hit lists and drafing media correspondence and materials, and delivering pitch calls. Work in coordination with PR Coordinator and other support staff to gather, produce and disseminate media materials such as news releases, pitch letters, fact sheets and press kits.
- Draft text, gather materials and produce final package for client reports and proposals. Includes working directly with senior staff to develop/edit content, produce copies and disseminate. Guide PR Coordinator, interns and other staff to assist in process.
- Maintain assigned client information files including but not limited to client correspondence, reports and proposals, media correspondence on behalf of the client, news releases and media clips.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency with wide range of technology including on-line research tools and desktop applications.
- Exceptional writing and copy editing skills with demonstrated abilities to produce news releases, work reports, opinion pieces and other documents for story placement.
- Avid interest, understanding and exposure to news media with proven ability to rollout national campaigns.

Public Relations Intern
McKinney & Associates, one of DC’s premier boutique public relations firms, seeks a public relations intern at its downtown K Street office. The firm has carved out a niche in public policy advocacy around social justice issues, including immigration rights. This position provides a college upperclassmen or recent graduate with an enviable entrance into the fast-paced field of advocacy communications.
Responsibilities:
- Track pertinent news clips and engage new media to address various aspects of client issues.
- Assist in generating and updating press contact lists and other databases of target constituencies; conduct data entry and dissemination of information.
- Assist in preparing press kits, project reports, work updates and other documents for client and new business campaigns.
- Provide general support to publicity and outreach campaigns in coordination with account professionals including fielding information requests, staffing media events, pitching story ideas and other related activities.
- Provide administrative support including telephone reception and general office support.
- Assist Account Associates in researching, generating and updating press contact lists and assisting support staff in data entry and production of lists.
- Assist Account Associates, in coordination with the President, in preparing press kits, project reports, work updates and other documents for clients.
Qualifications:
- An upperclassmen or recent graduate from communications or journalism program.
- Strong written and oral communications skills used to convey persuasive pitches.
- Spanish language skills are highly desirable, but not required.
- Comfortable in responding to fast-paced and shifting demands of multiple clients.
- Previous public relations agency experience a plus
Hours: Must have flexible schedule; work a minimum of 20 hours per week in consecutive days, preferably Monday thru Friday.
