Voting Rights
McKPR has extensive experience promoting equal access to the ballot. The firm managed a year-long communications campaign — Renew the VRA — that involved the nation’s leading civil rights advocacy organizations and culminated in adoption of the Reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act of 2007. Led by the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund, the collaborative successfully pushed for reauthorization of expiring provisions of the Act. These protections have empowered African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans to have a political voice and choice in electoral politics.
McKPR employed an expansive tool kit of communications tactics ranging from story placements, audio briefings, op-ed campaigns and special events. The firm's work concentrated on raising awareness to the continued need to combat persisting voter discrimination and protection of America's democracy for all.
Leading into the historic 2008 presidential election, McKPR partnered with Fenton Communications to provide communications strategy and execution to the Democracy Alliance Election Protection Campaign. Activities included an intensive suite of communications counsel, message development, media management and placements for public advocacy organizations, including the Advancement Project, NAACP, U.S. Student Association and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights.
